Summary, etc This text book is based upon the syllabus of Paper Discipline Course 1-4 of Four Year Undergraduate Programme in Commerce, University of Delhi. Care has been taken to keep the book student friendly, yet facilitative of learning. Suggestions were asked from teachers and HRM professionals about the pedagogy used in teaching/training, and so, heavy dose of literature has not been used. The book has five units as given in the Delhi University’s syllabus. <br/><br/>Unit I provides the students with the foundation of HRM. It provides them with an overview of the ever-changing world of work and the effect it has on HRM. A discussion about how changes in technology, work force diversity etc. have to be dealt with by the organization. <br/><br/>Unit II provides an insight into the HR Planning and Job Analysis. It gives an overview of the processes of Recruitment, Selection, Placement, Induction and Socialization. It also discusses the organizational benefits derived from realistic job previews. <br/><br/>Unit III describes the basic training process and illustrates how the training requirements are identified and programs are made to develop employees. It gives insight into the latest training and development techniques used in the world today by the HRM department to train and develop employees. <br/><br/>Unit IV discusses the performance appraisal systems of modern organizations. It also explains the transfer and promotion practices of organizations for career development of employees. <br/><br/>Unit V, the last unit focuses on the compensation and maintenance of the workforce. The concept and administration of compensation methods has been elaborately discussed. The rationale of employee health,<br/><br/>Safety and social security programs have been discussed with simple examples. Grievance handling procedures used by organizations have been dealt with in the concluding chapter. Wherever necessary, Case studies have been given along with answers to the various problems in the cases.
