500 ## - GENERAL NOTE | |
General note | Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, though considered vital for an organization, are not always advantageous. This happens due to several reasons, one of the most important being the end user’s behavioral intention to use ERP. The aim of this paper is to study the behavioral intention behind ERP implementation in a selected manufacturing organization and by proven extension, the manufacturing industry. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to test the efficacy of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in predicting the use of ERP systems in a packaging industry in India. After a detailed literature review, 100 questionnaires were distributed to the employees of Mold-Tek Technologies, Hyderabad, India. The results reveal that perceived usefulness and attitude towards use, followed by subjective norms, are strong predictors of the behavioral intention to use ERP. The results also indicate that employees with 7-10 years of work experience within the manufacturing firm show a positive intention to use ERP. The study has implications for managers and employees in manufacturing and mechanical firms, which have recently implemented ERP systems in their domain. Employees in manufacturing firms typically tend to be rigid towards accepting new technology, and this study provides some details regarding how this can be improved. |
