Eleventh Five Year Plan
Selected Readings
The current year is the first of the Twelfth Five Year Plan. However, the Plan document is as yet not ready and what we have is only the Approch Paper to the Twelfth Plan. The Approach Paper emphasises `faster, sustainable and more inclusive growth.` It aims at a 9 per cent rate of growth. However, because of the emergence of significant supply bottlenecks on a verity of fronts (particularly infrastructure, energy and minerals) and strong inflationary pressures in the economy, achieving this growth rate would be a daunting task. Achieving a sustainable and more inclusive growth seems even more improbable as unemployment, poverty, malnutrition and undernutrition in the economy are widespread and crucial issues relating to environmental degradation need to addressed.
In the present thirtieth edition of our book, we focus on the achievements and failures of the Indian Economy, problems confronting the different sectors, critical evaluation of the various programmes being undertaken by the government and growth prospects in considerable detail.
