A Case Study of Connecting Rod Manufacturing Industries to Control Big End Bore Diameter Variation
Material type: TextDescription: 61-73 PSubject(s): In: MURTHY, E N OPERATION MANAGEMENTSummary: This case study highlights how a leading manufacturer of connecting rod overcomes the dimensional variation in big end bore diameter. Brainstorming exercises are conducted and matrix is prepared with Risk Priority Number (RPN). A structured action plan is implemented and discussed in detail with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Four iterations are carried out with suitable implementations. It is suggested that the value of torque at the time of the second assembly of connecting rod should be maintained in the predefined range. The use of precise torque wrench is proposed to have better accuracy in an assembly operation. The present paper illustrates a real-life case study of practicing DMAIC at connecting rod manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises.Item type | Current library | Call number | Vol info | Status | Notes | Date due | Barcode | Item holds | |
