Reforming the Indian Port Sector

In the case of India, the port sector has played a vital role in sustaining growth in the country’s trade and commerce. However, the growth of trade and subsequent maritime traffic has fast outpaced the development of port infrastructure in India. Against the background of government initiatives in this sector, the objective of this article is to contextualize the importance of port sector development, specifically the impact that improvements in infrastructure quality can have on India’s global trade.
